Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and heightened responsiveness to suggestion. It’s not something strange or mysterious—it’s actually a state you enter every day.
You’ve likely experienced hypnosis while becoming absorbed in a book, daydreaming during a drive, or losing track of time while scrolling social media. Hypnotherapy simply uses this natural state intentionally, helping you access your inner resources and create meaningful change.
No.
One of the biggest misconceptions about hypnosis is that you surrender control to the hypnotist. In reality, you remain aware, capable of making decisions, and able to stop the process at any time.
Hypnosis is a collaborative experience. My role is to guide you. Your mind remains your own throughout.
In fact, many people discover they feel more in control of themselves after hypnosis, not less.
No.
Stage hypnosis has created many myths about what hypnosis is and isn’t. Therapeutic hypnosis is very different.
You will not say, reveal, or do anything that goes against your values, morals, or personal boundaries. Hypnosis works with your mind, not against it.
Everyone experiences hypnosis a little differently.
Many people describe it as feeling deeply relaxed while remaining aware of what’s happening around them. Others describe it as feeling absorbed, focused, peaceful, or pleasantly detached from everyday distractions.
Some people feel very relaxed. Some don’t.
The important thing to know is that hypnosis works whether it feels dramatic or subtle.
If you can relax into a good film at the cinema, and if you sometimes find yourself ‘zoning out’ on the highway, or drifting off in to la la land when somebody with a calming voice has been nattering away for too long, you can be hypnotised. In fact, we all go into some sort of hypnosis several times everyday, even if it’s the waking dream-state before falling asleep in our beds at the end of the day.
Therefore, everyone can experience intentional hypnosis, provided they are willing to participate, are invested in their wellbeing, and able to follow simple instructions.
Contrary to popular belief, being hypnotisable is not a weakness. In fact, people with good imaginations, strong focus, and the ability to become absorbed in experiences often make excellent hypnosis subjects.
You don’t need to “try” to be hypnotised. You simply need to allow yourself to participate in the process.
No.
Despite the name, hypnosis is not sleep.
Most people hear everything I say and remember most or all of the session afterwards. Hypnosis is typically a state of focused awareness rather than unconsciousness.
This depends on your goals and circumstances.
Some clients experience significant shifts in a single session. Others prefer a series of sessions to create deeper, more comprehensive change.
During our initial consultation we’ll discuss your goals and determine the most appropriate approach for you.
Although hypnosis can be applied to an astonishing list of themes in life, some common uses include the support of:
* Confidence and self-esteem
* Anxiety and stress management
* Motivation and goal achievement
* Habits and behavioural change
* Emotional resilience
* Self-trust and personal empowerment
* Performance enhancement
* Limiting beliefs and self-sabotage
* Life transitions and personal growth
If you’re unsure whether hypnotherapy may be helpful for your particular situation, feel free to reach out and ask.
Yes.
Hypnosis is considered a safe, natural experience for most people when conducted by a trained professional.
You are never “stuck” in hypnosis. Even if I stopped speaking entirely, you would simply emerge naturally from the hypnotic state or drift into ordinary relaxation.
No.
You don’t need to believe in hypnosis any more than you need to believe in exercise before going for a walk.
Curiosity is enough.
Many of my most successful clients began with healthy scepticism. What matters most is your willingness to engage with the process and remain open to the possibility of change.
Each session begins with a conversation about your goals and what you’d like to achieve.
From there, I’ll guide you into a comfortable hypnotic state and use tailored hypnotic techniques designed to help you access your own inner resources and create the changes you’re seeking.
Every session is personalised to you.
Most people remember the vast majority of their session.
Some clients report that parts of the experience feel dreamlike or distant afterwards, while others remember every detail clearly. Both experiences are perfectly normal.
If you’re ready for change, willing to participate in the process, and curious about what might become possible when you work with your mind rather than against it, hypnosis may be an excellent fit.
You already possess far more inner wisdom, resilience, and capability than you may realise.
Sometimes the most powerful changes begin simply by learning how to access what’s already there.
I’d be delighted to answer them. Feel free to get in touch and we can discuss your goals, concerns, and whether hypnotherapy feels like the right next step for you.
